[Computer Game]: Civilization 3: Conquests, reviewed by wljohnso (3/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10115.phtml

Wes Johnson's Summary:

The Civ3 series is like Star Trek Movies, odd installments are good, even are bad. Conquests is the third product in the Civ3 line and is a good deal of fun for its conquests and additions to generic gameplay.

allthumbs is correct.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Search For Spock, The Final Frontier, and Generations were the sucky ones (things started improving once we got to First Contact).

The good ones were The Wrath of Kahn, The Voyage Home, Undescovered Country, and First Contact.

After First Contact, the rule kind of ceased applying.

You also have the even/odd Civ rule wrong

Civilization 2 is widely regarded as one of the best video games ever created, and is number one on many people's lists.

Civilization 1 is no slouch either.

I meant within the contexts of the Civ3 line

Civ3 = Good
PtW = Not godd
C3C = Good

In the larger term, there has yet to be a lemon in the main core games. All three have been good.

I liked ST1...

...but that is not much of a defence. Yes you are right the evens are what I meant.

I guess if this is what I am being smoked on, not bad so far.

I meant the even number Star Trek movies are good. Sorry, I boofed that emtaphore bad.

After cranking out the review I started replaying the Middle Ages Conquest and it is a little better than I implied. I tried it playing (Shudder) France and found a little more success early. It is a slow paced scenario, especially with technology and if you are at all impatient it will be a blood bath with the same early units for a very long time. I got most of western europe using spearmen, horsemen and swordsmen. The other factions are interesting, but the conquest is geared towards playing the Franks, Burgundians, Germans or English.

Cheers,
Wes

Regardless of the parity, it seems a bit of a stretch to make such a comparison based on a sample size of three. At least wait until the fourth game sucks.

That is fatalism. luckily there has not been a bad Civ game that Sid has been attached to...the call to power line I disregard.
