Take 6 question

I recently played a card game called "Take 6" for the first time. You placed your numbered cards above other numbered cards in a stretch, and when that stretch got to six cards in size, the last person to place took the pile to his trash pile. Then the points in the trash get counted, and points get handed out according to who has the most cards (or the most points on the cards) (obviously more points is bad in this game--first person to get 66 points loses.)

This sounds like a climbing card game from your description. Is it? And do you have an opinion on this game?

I suspect it's not a proper climbing game, but it sounds like it might be related. The three criteria of climbing games are really:

1. Play must match current trick size.
2. Play must be of higher cards to those already played.
3. Play does not following simple one-play tricks, but rather continues until no higher plays are possible/desirable.

From what I understand of 6 Nimmt! which I believe is the same game, you're playing to one of multiple stretches, rather than to a more classic trick.

Still, I'm not entirely sure if there's a better definition. 6 Nimmt! is on my list of card games to try out at some time (along with Coloretto and Rage) because of its wide-spread acclaim.

The start of the game has four? cards layed out, and the players select a card from their hand. Then the selected are revealed, and the lowest card is placed above its closest match in the initial layout. And then the next lowest is placed in the next one that is closest to it.

The cards played must be higher than a card already on the table, or you take a stretch early.

It seemed a good bit random because other players unpredictable plays could seriously alter the effect of your card. Often, you might have had a hopeful card. Perhaps a 94 to play on a stretch of four headed by a 85, and then see two other players play a 87, and a 90, and suddenly you are taking the whole stretch to your trash pile.

I think at least #2 and #3 fit for your description, but I'm unsure.

Thanks.

I'd have to do some more research and thinking, but yeah, that's probably the right categorization.

Tried to order a copy of the game last week, but it's apparently only available via import.
