http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10183.phtml

Ciro Alessandro Sacco's Summary:

A good game, but far overpriced if we consider the physical qualities of the components

Combat

Combat doesn't quite work the way you describe. Here's how it works:

1) Add up your character's strength, plus any bonuses from items and special abilities.

2) Compare that to the total strength of the monsters you're fighting.

3) Look up the difference on a table that is displayed on the game board. That tells you what you need to roll (at or above) on 2d6 in order to defeat the monsters.

Dark Tower...

I used to have Dark Tower as a kid (and wishes I still did).

It was pretty cool, but it was more of a wargame style RPG (like say Birthright) than a real RPG. You went around and built up your army, then stormed the dark tower

You were far too kind on this game. I bought it and I think it sucks. I wish I had my forty bucks back. Orcs at the Gates (the KODT board game) was overpriced too but at least the game has staying power and is fun to play again and again. This one will likely gather dust. If you're going to play Talisman why not just play the real thing?

Nice Review

Not a bad review over all, but I might suggest not making the assumption that 'anyone' reading this knows about the source material.

Not necessarily true.

A paragraph or two explaining Matt, Carson and Ken would suffice.

Unfortunately no paragraph could begin to explain Igor.

You are right, my bad. That happens when you charge somebody else for the task of determining combat results (the table was not on my side of the board every time we played!) and when you write a review without proper self editing... I'll do better next time 8-)

I agree with Grimshar. This game is pretty lame for the price. A CheapAss version might have been a better route.
