[RPG]: HeartQuest, reviewed by NPC Jeremy (3/3)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10230.phtml

Jeremy Reaban's Summary:

An interesting, but flawed attempt to take Role-Playing Games into genres it probably shouldn't go (\"Shoujo Manga\" or \"Comics for Girls\". At least for most gaming groups.

Is Fudge really that hard?

Somehow, to me a single 2x7 chart doesn't particularly disqualify a game for "rules-light" status, especially compared to the likes of D&D3e, Hero, or RoleMaster.

Same with the "fairly complicated formula"; 1 Gift/Fault = 2 attribute levels = 6 skill levels. Not exactly rocket science.

Just my 2 cents. =^.^=

P.S.: Inu-Yasha is a dog demon (explained in the first episode, unless the CN version has been truly butchered), and it's definitely not a magical girl series in any conventional sense. Think Sailor Moon, Wedding Peach, St. Tail, Magic Knight Rayearth, Tokyo Mew Mew, etc.

I Googled him and came up with several answers. Talking about the football player or the porn star?

4 d6 + Magic Marker = Fudge Dice

Draw a square on two faces of the four dice.
Square = 0

Draw a + on two faces of the dice.
+ = + (+1)

Draw a angled - (in other words,'') on two more faces.
- = - (-1)

Poof. Fudge dice in under a minute.

The character in Bill Amend's comic strip "Fox Trot," actually.

Jason is the stereotypical twelve year old geek. He does calculus for fun, he fabricates intricate costumes in which to go see scifi and fantasy movies, he plays computer and console games endlessly, and he GMs when he can convince his sister to make up a party of characters.

JASON: You arrive at the entrance to the dungeon. You enter. Rocks fall, everyone dies.

Writing reviews after bedtime

"(I think DP9s game system whose name I cannot spell at 4 am in the morning uses this tack)."

Why are you writing a review at this time? You are doing yourself, the game, and the reader a serious injustice. It makes you look stupid and careless.

I recently ran Fudge B&B at DunDraCon and since I lacked enough fudge dice for all 8 players, I provided a chart that converted 3d6 or 1d100 to the -4 to +4 fudge scale (using the conversions from Fudge itself). The chart was printed on index card-sized handouts and they worked like a charm; the people who used them were no slower than the ones using the fudge dice.

Don't be so harsh.

It's a fine review.

It does not make him look stupid or careless. It's a roleplaying game review, Mr. Maniac.

Thanks,
Nathan

Being a nitpicker accomplishes much the same.

Lighten up.
