[Board/Tactical Game]: Alhambra, reviewed by Jake (5/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10265.phtml

Jake de Oude's Summary:

Nice German board game, now available in an English version. The many and great components cannot hide the fact that the game play lacks severely in one important element: direct involvement.

Not really more than a 3-player game

Converted from Phorums BB System

After lots and lots of playing this game, and talking to others in my boardgame club about their experiences, we've all come to the conclusion that Alhambra is an excellent two- or three-player game, but falls down drastically with more than three players.

At four players it's so-so, and there are far better four-player games in my collection. I don't think I'd ever want to try it again with more than four players.

If you find yourself needing a three-player game on a reasonable basis, then I highly recommend you add this one to your collection. There are a handful of truly excellent three-player games, and I have no reservations adding this to the list (the others I know of are Web of Power, Schnappchen Jagd, and Carolus Magnus, and of those only the first two are in print sadly enough).
