It's a good product, but it doesn't quite go as far as it could in getting across the really cool bits of the Underworld. You may get some macabre pleasure out of seeing what Microsoft Word does to HTML, though.

Very thorough. I own the book but only gave it a once through because my group has barely made it through the second sourcebook.
I bought Orpheus because it was a bubble in the World of Darkness. I didn't want Vampires, I didn't want Werewolves, and seeming as I never knew anything about Wraith, I didn't want that either.
So, I am glad that they played taboo with Wraith lexicon.
On another note, in the core book they do explain about the Black Ant/White Rice syndrome. People are just very skeptical and looking at shows like that one where the guy gets ghosts for people in the audience, it is tough to believe. So that's the stance I use.
Anyway good review. It is a really good book. I also do wonder what they were thinking with the 4-th Tier Haunter Horror. Especially since your Crucible should be down there where roads probably aren't as accessible. Oh yeah, and the Emblems are powerful as hell, but it is nearing the end of the chronicle, might as well turn it epic.

Yeah maybe the Haunters should be able to transform (that's right transform) into a sub-compact or one of those neat little orange moon buggies from Space 1999.

I have followed the line from the begining, and my players have suffered through the harrowing experiences (While loving the time they got to take), but I was also a little dissapointed with the 4th tier Haunter power. To be honest, I am not sure what to give them but a monster truck seems to be a little wierd for a hardcore underworld campaign. I like the idea of the wings with chained hooks, but that seems to also miss the point a bit.
I think they should have gone with some of the more disturbing Artificer stuff (like soulforging) and allow them to manipulate and craft the drones into gear. That would bring some of the old devil bargins of Wraith into this game, and those moral grey areas with it. Just a thought.

The developer says he put the "transform into ghost car" power in there as a reference to Carrie and all the other books or movies with haunted vehicles. Apparently every Horror is a reference to a book or movie about ghosts.
I'm with the reviewer. I'd probably give Haunters the power to possess ghostly items (like Orphan-Grinders get the ability to possess ghosts), and maybe the ability to possess whole areas and landscapes. Turning into a giant monster truck doesn't do much for me.

Just wanted to point out that Haunters already can possess ghostly items - it's stated as one of the ways that a ghost can cross the Stormwall is by possessing an object in the Wasteland, if she is aware of its location in relation to the Shadowlands.
And possessing large areas is essentially covered in the Haunter Crucible Horror.
What I think it should have been was basically what was provided - but more beefed up. That a Haunter could turn into a ghost version of anything it had previously possessed. This would mean that they could be planes, vehicles... all the ghostly machines of legend. (And I'm probably going to do this with my group...) So the Ghost train that haunts a local trainyard, driven by the original engineer... that kind of thing.

As far as I can remember, the 4th Tier Haunter Horror *do* enable them to transform into a ghostly version of any vehicle they have already possessed before. It doesn't need to be a truck. Gotta check that, though. Maybe I just came to the same conclusion as you - "this would be sooo better this way"...
As a side note, the Spite-fueled version do transform the nature of the vehicle visibly, too. I'm considering allowing the Horror only when Spite-fueled because of that; if we're going the sheer shocking route, better to do that ostensibly than just allowing a PC to turn into a regular van.
Also, I suspect this Horror was created to provide a quick answer to travel problems in the Wasteland. Sure, Hellion could summon a ghostly horse, and Screaming Nothing can open a nihil to another point on the Wasteland, but neither option is safe or harmless. With massive clashes between tons os Spectres being thrown up on the characters, something along the lines of easy ghostly transport was needed. Without Hell on Wheels, all STs would be obliged to play deus ex-machina and have sample relic vehicles at hand to pop up at the strangest of times, just to prevent PCs dying at the wrong moment. Though I agree this Horror is a bit off the scale.
