just want to say fantastic review I'm sold will go pick up a copy on my way home (have Buffy on my shelf also).
Not many reviews make me want to go out and spend lots of money only Dan Davenport's reviews tend to get me to be separated from my hard earned cash. I will have to watch out for more of your reviews as I'll end up being doublely broke.

because Angel doesn't include the Sorcery quality or quick casting rules. They have the same basic ritual magic base, but Buffy goes a bit farther in magic than Angel does (as befits the differences on the two shows).
Other than that, I thought the review was right on the money. Good job Steve!

I found the rulebook very poorly designed as a reference guide. Even simple questions like 'how long is a Turn?' (important when effects like regeneration and spells are measured in minutes) take far too long to look up (the woefully inadequate two-page index has no section for 'T'). I was not too fond of the overly casual, often flippant tone of the writing (so much so that I have not read the thing cover-to-cover). In general, they provide plenty of examples, except in those vague areas of supernatural power use where you actually need good examples.
Yes, the book was pretty, but glossy color pages do nothing for me. I need a book I can actually use.

Great review - it is making me think I should pick up the game - either to use it to add new material to my current Mage game, or to somehow switch over my current Mage game into Angel instead...funny how new games get you to thinking 'how can I shoe-horn this into my current campaign'

...you get to the back and find there's no handy list of combat maneuvers or weapons like there was in the Buffy corebook. This might seem nitpicky until you actually run a combat, then you're having to flip back and forth to the pages with maneuvers. I'm also finding a surprising amount of typos. Otherwise, it's very well done. But I give the Buffy corebook the edge.

True, poor indexing should have been an important point in this review, if such is the case. However, Patrick's criticism that it should be readable from "cover-to-cover" seems odd for a rulebook. In 22 years, I think the only rulebook I've ever read cover-to-cover was Castle Falkenstein. While I did enjoy that good read, I find it much more valuable for a rulebook to be skimmable than readable.
