[RPG]: A Resection of Time, reviewed by David Conyers (3/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10344.phtml

David Conyers's Summary:

A Resection of Time claims to be a short campaign, while the cover’s subtitle suggests that it is a scenario. I think A Resection of Time falls somewhere in between.

It's not

The female breast has some history with Call of Cthulu, but you're probably correct that no recent editions of the game have used such titillating artwork. I'd have to review my collection first to tell you which titles had such pictures, or perhaps someone else will beat me to it.

Delta Green

I actually ran this scenario for a Delta Green campaign.

I did a small bit of conversion work (the Mi-Go aren't as hands-on in Delta Green, for reasons I won't spoil here), but the scenrio ran fine otherwise.

There are a few cute easter eggs in the adventure for those familiar with certain fictional locales.

We had a lot of fun with it, even though there was a bit of a revolving door among my players (8 players cycled through, though never more than 5-6 at a time).

We played it as part of a DG campaign and it was horrible. The module is nothing but a railroading, sight-seeing narration with no true player choice or investigation. Despite the best efforts of our GM, who tried to open up the options and play up the atmosphere as best he could, the experience left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

How odd...

Our gaming group played Fungi from Yuggoth several editions of Call of Cthulu ago and generally agreed that it was our best Call of Cthulu campaign ever (exceeded only by some one-evening scenarios that went especially well). It's true, because of the "railroad" effect, you can always get from A to B without investigation, but everything you learn helps you survive the encounters ahead. Because we investigated thoroughly, my character survived from the beginning all the way to the final encounter (but sadly, not past it).

How embarassing!

I confused this review with the other CoC review on the same page! Obviously, my Fungi from Yuggoth experience is irrelevant here. Feel free to trash this module!

Scott,

Perhaps the Fungi from Yoggoth are playing with your mind (after all, they are the power behind both adventures, as well as the major enemy facing Delta Green)!
