Art vs Catchphrases

I find it interesting that your experience is that some find the art off-putting, but you compliment the catchphrases.

I've met players who comment on the art, and it is bizarre, but don't know anyone who thought it detracted from the game.

The commentary on the cards, OTOH, is blatantly irreligious. Again, while I've never played with anyone who mentioned being offended by this, I have read many people commenting to that affect in reviews and discussions.

Personally, I love the game, but quite possibly wouldn't have bought it if I'd read the cards before hand. While some people will find the sacriligeous nature of the commentary (eg, Jesus hates you and so do I) funny, it certainly isn't necessary, and presents an image that has nothing to do with the game.

IMO, including such commentary makes no sense. I doubt anyone will buy the game for the on-card comments, but many will bypass it for that reason.

I also think that any review of this game should mention the nature of said commentary, because quite a few potential buyers WILL find it very offensive.

By 'art' on the point I am talking about the overall feeling I have seen others experiencing when playing the game, I mean both images and text. As I wrote, approximately 10% of those I know that did not like it, images and phrases included, but not for the reason that you mentioned. They didn't like it because they find the whole idea of small kids fighting an upsetting idea. The 'irreligious' text is nothing but 'collateral damage' on a game about small bullies fighting in order to steal each others money. For them, the premise was the problem, the wrapping was secondary. I can't imagine a person with such issues wanting to play LM in the first place and then being put off by the commentary.

Me, on the other hand, I actually liked the catchphrases and disliked the images. There are countless CCGs or (non-C)CGs with catch phrases along with the rules on the cards, and for a gamer that is the glitch here: The lack of rules on the cards and the lack of distinctive colloration make the game more difficult to play.
