[RPG]: GURPS Traveller Sword Worlds, reviewed by Daron Patton (3/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10358.phtml

Daron Patton's Summary:

The book is useful as a generic setting reference but it is heavily Travellerized. If you are looking to develop some star systems for a campaign for your sci-fi RPG, I recommend checking out this book. If you’re doing that expanding for a Traveller game, I can recommend it even more.

Little niggles

Converted from Phorums BB System

A very good book, with only a few niggling problems.

The primary problem was the subsector map. This had only the Sword and Border Worlds named on it, and lacked hex references, despite their use in the text.

Even if it was a full subsector map, with the references to the surrounding subsectors in the text it should have at least covered some of the terain of the surrounding area. Ideally starports, naval and scout bases, gas giants, and tech levels should have been placed on the map.

My second problem is with the Starships/Spaceships section. One yacht. Hmmmm...Traveller characters spend their time travelling between the stars, and one good way of letting them know (and feel) that they are 'somewhere different' is to throw in encounters with new ships. There should have at least been descriptions, illustrations, and perhaps a deckplan or two of a Sword World Trader, Patrol Cruiser, and an SDB.

With these changes it would have been a fabulous book, as it is, it's only excellent.
