[RPG]: The Palladium Book Of Contemporary Weapons 2nd Edition, reviewed by migo (4/3)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10390.phtml

Robin Ashe's Summary:

This is essentially a stat book of over 250 modern guns. It is designed to be workable with any game system. It works with most systems but there are a few which it doesn't seem to be particularly compatible with. Chances are you will be able to get some use out of it.

Good review and...

...one of the few Paladium releases that still has some merit. Though I will say when it was originally released it was a bigger fish in a smaller pond for this kind of supplement.

Hell, if you paid 5 bucks Canadian for it you got a good deal. I would have bought it too.

Since then a number of products have been introduced that are likely better. R.Talisorian did a particularly nice one and Guns! Guns! Guns! and its follow up must be mentioned too.

Siembieda has a well earned track record of being a lazy publisher in regards to rules balancing and testing...so while I like this book I also have a hard time getting over his pedestrian scholarship (only trumped by the legend Gygax himself).

Cheers,
Wes

Yeah, I understand that Palladium is famous for their copy and paste jobs (only somewhat trumped by AEG), but as was obvious from my review, I've never played any Palladium RPGs and in fact this is the only Palladium book that I own or have read, so I haven't been subjected to data being loaded over and over again.

If you had to pick one great Palladium product, this would be one of them.

I also liked their midieval weapons and castles book, which is worth picking up. Much of the stuff in these books was done well before Siembieda became lacksadasical about testing/balancing his stuff before release. It was at a point that I admired his game design skills as they were at his apex.

Cheers,
Wes

In the front few pages there is an illustration by KS where a guy has two SMGs crossed, one of his hands has 6 fingers

Off hand I don't think it is. I don't have the copy with me right now though.

Maybe it's on one of the pages that was ripped out. The only picture of a guy in the book I can see is on the cover, and no 6 fingered guy there.
