So what are the really GREAT 2-player card games? I've been looking recently and have found it a sparse field.

This is one of the best. Others that we like a lot:

1. San Juan: (not reviewed yet)

2. The Mystery Rummies: http://www.rpg.net/reviews/search-review.phtml?productLine=Mystery+Rummy

3. Seasons: http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10312.phtml

4. Balloon Cup: (not reviewed yet)

And that's my approximate level of enjoyment, with Lost Cities slotting in at 1.5.

Shannon

The Settlers of Catan card game is excellent, and is designed specifically for 2 players only. It's based heavily on many of the concepts used in the board game, but nicely tweaked for 2-player play. Highly recommended.

There seemed to be some sentiment that the trading option was on the pointless side, however, what with only two players.

I agree about the trading, and personally I found the game a bit long & dry.

Here's my review:

Though it's not really a card game, if you want a 2-player Settlers type game, I liked Starship Catan quite a bit more. Here's my review:

You might check out Dracula (Rio Grande Games) and Odin's Ravens (Rio Grande games)...The first one is a bit of Memory with some element of bluff in it and the second is a racing game between two ravens with interesting tactical choices..

Also from Rio Grande are Caesar & Cleopatra and Hera & Zeus; both are excellent, fun two player games. C&C is especially good, and as always the art is well above average.

Kahuna is another great little two-player game in the same line, but it's not really a card game. Lots of fun though!
