[RPG]: Pulp Fu: A Wushu Game of Noir Style and Pulp Action! , reviewed by Brand Robins (3/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10440.phtml

Brand Robins's Summary:

The most recent incarnation of Wushu, Pulp Fu is the best supported, most fully explained version of the game system to date. That it is less at home in Noir clothes is undeniable, but this version of the game is still the one to get.

Wushu is ahead of its time...

I love the basic game, and own all of the supplements so far. I only have one problem with the game. I can't get anyone to play it.

The biggest complaint from the group was that it made their head hurt to have to think as much and as quickly as they had to. They were so used to D&D and other 'old skool' games that the relentless free-form action was just too much for them! The game is great, just ahead of its time for a generation of RPers who think D20's 'A Rule For Everything' approach is the pinnacle of RP Design.

Of course for me, this was never a problem. But then, I'm the only one bold enough to run it, so I never get to play. Mind you, some of the clarifications you metioned would be just the thing to ease someone else into GM'ing, so for everyone reading this I say it's a must have.

WHat is wrong with you people?

Have you taken into consideration that you paid for this stuff? This is the sort of thing that should be available for free.... an unfinished, unpolished product. It is not professional and not a full game. This is why people don't like PDFs because paying for something of this quality is a crime. Are you living in a dream world?

Did you bother to mention that all it is is a pdf of a poorly formatted word document? Are there bookmarks? You cant be serious!

Don't get me wrong. Im not saying it's total crap. It's just not worth money. People have nerve charging for stuff like this. The PDF market is oversaturated with amateur work like this. Can't you grasp reality?

I paid for it and thought it worth the money, I felt that the low price reflected the matters you refer to.

So, it's not worth money to you but it was worth money to me.

Last I checked, the printed-hardcopy market is oversaturated with amateur-nite quality, too.

We have different priorities than you, and think differently about what makes a product worth our time and money?

I know this is probably a difficult concept for you to grasp, but not everyone is like you.

Personally, I've always found Wushu to be worth the 5 bucks. I could have had a hamburger or Wushu, and Wushu's given me way more hours of fun.

Give ME a break! I paid five bucks for the TEXT in this document, not the format. It's a great game and it's worth five bucks atleast. Are you honestly saying the only thing in any RPG worth paying for is the layout?

Btw, it's not very long, why do you need bookmarks?

Your kind of mentality is what is ruining movies today, that things looking good is more important than them BEING good. It's horrible...

I'm not saying the text is no good. I'm saying its no good for the price. This epidemic of tiny pdf files has you expecting less content for more money. It should be the other way around.

Again, this qualifies for a free web pdf but not a commercial product.

Get a grip! The author is making profits off his half-hearted attempt to create something for the commercial market. Have better standards and expect more from him. If he wants people to see it in its unpolsihed form, it should be free. When he can create something that meets professional standards then he can charge for it.

Its your kind of mentality is what is ruining movies today...

...you'll accept anything!

At first I was shocked by Declan's message, and then it sunk in. My view is that when something on the internet is cheap, it should be because you didn't have to pay for distrbution and middle-men (and women). Maybe it's because I'm from California, but you can't throw a pile of dung without hitting a desk-top publisher.

The writing in this is not worth five bucks? FIVE BUCKS?!

Also, it's not a very bad layout, some say all .pdfs should be in landscape layout (not I, but some). The game is awesome and it has good examples that are well written and set the mood. How is this not worth Five Bucks?
