[Board/Tactical Game]: Nautilus, reviewed by ShannonA (5/2)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10450.phtml

Shannon Appelcline's Summary:

Nautilus is a beautifully produced game that I find generally flawed and not the best choice for either a family gamer or a more serious strategist. It's a pity given the gorgeous pieces.

Pretty Much Agree

I bought the game, read it...and unlike most other similiar games got absolutely no vibe off it. A game like Puerto Rico had me Jonesing to play more from the first skim of the rules. The new Axis & Allies D-day has me really itching to give it a whirl just to see if they actually managed to pull off an operational level wargame from an A&A base...it sounds really promising on read...I really want to try it out.

But Nautillus...nope. Never once has my eye alighted on that game on my shelf and made me think...hey...I really want to play it. Even when friends have asked about playing it I generally defer. The rules are far too fiddly to try and figure out and explain for a game I don't find all that compelling.

If I want a "move around, see what you can find, make profits and build stuff" game, I'd rather play the old Source of the Nile game. Or...play a PC game. 4X games are much easier and generally deeper on the PC than they ever could be table top.

Sealab 2021

Someone should take all the compontents and come up with a Sealab 2021 game from scratch.

The winner is the one who manages to blow up the base.

That would be cool!
