[RPG]: Book of Archetypes, reviewed by Dan Davenport (3/3)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10539.phtml

Dan Davenport's Summary:

The scattershot nature of this collection of pregen characters, only about half of which I consider actual archetypes, makes the value this book hard to judge. If your players happen to like the choices, you might get your monies worth.

Seriously, good review, Dan, although I'd have to admit to being the type of weirdo who likely would purchase a hot pink iguana.

cheers!

Dan, the "pink iguanas" term should be in the standard gamers lexicon. Absolutely brilliant! I have ofen felt that way when looking at "archetypes" in games - I mean that 'that's an archetype? Of WHAT?' feeling - but I never had a name for it until now!

Anyway, another stellar review!

Ah, but would you expect to find one at the pet store?

(And thanks!

Thanks, fm! Glad you liked that term. I actually did a bit of web searching just to make sure there isn't such a thing as a pink iguana. I threw in the "HOT pink" part to hedge my bet a little.

Greetings,

Every bit as entertaining as it is informative.

Actually both reviews are. Though I liked the intro of this one a bit more.

Excellent job keep up the good work!

Kind Regards,

Kester Pelagius

Thanks, Kester.

I'm glad you liked the return of the "Hard-Boiled GMshoe". Some like those intros and some don't, so I'm only going to use this type when it feels somehow appropriate for the book in question.

Clarifications

Hey There,
Since I'm one of the culprits that is responsible for of in the reviews I figure I'll fill in some of the blanks I've made, following Mr. Chapman's excellent example.

1) My original intention with the G-man and the ex-spy were supposed to be this: The first was supposed to represent a "Men in Black" style concept of shadowy agents or FBI investigators doing black bag work on the sly. The ex-spy was really meant to be more along the lines of someone who did covert intelligence/direct action work. Basically one was a watcher and investigator, the other the guy who acted on the intelligence.

2) _In theory_ the Boomstick could be created. Wouldn't suggest trying it at home, but when making up the item, 20mm was picked because it was big, and would fit inside the M203 (which uses 40mm grenades). What i had in mind was some sort of metal insert put into the barrel of the M203 so it would fire the new kind of round.

Best,
Evin

Hurray for the return of the Hard-Boiled GMshoe!

Hurray!

(Again, Dan, great review. And you already knew I missed your alter-ego. :-) )

Bye,
