[RPG]: Monkey, Ninja, Pirate, Robot: The Roleplaying Game, reviewed by Kester Pelagius (5/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10610.phtml

C. Demetrius Morgan's Summary:

Are looking for a RPG that's fun, easy to play, and unburdened by a lot of pseudo-intellectual pretense? Well you should be. What’s more you should probably read this review. I mean c’mon there’s Monkeys, Ninjas, Pirates, and Robots!

There's been worse. I don't think this guy should be strung up for his performance.

Aye, but I can't help but think that some actual *review* might have been good.

Having read the review all I know about the game is that it's got Monkeys, Ninjas, Pirates and Robots, and that it's free of "pretentiousness" and "gygaxisms"

Well, I enjoyed the review. It's not like the game is so dead serious you can't have a little fun. Thanks, Kester! This one looks great!

Ah, and there was I thinking that I merely expected a reviewer to actually tell me something coherant about the game, rather than trying to sound zany.

How exactly *does* one assign Ranks to things? What actually determines your starting Mojo? What, game mechanically, does mojo actually *do*? How exactly is the game like FUDGE?

Of course, all those answers might be there, but my blindness and stupidity stops me from seeing them. It's a good thing I can touch type.

Howdy,

Apologies for the lateness of my reply.

>>Ah, and there was I thinking that I merely expected a reviewer to actually tell me something coherant about the game, rather than trying to sound zany.

The game occupies a total of 64 pages.

The one thing I will NOT do is give away the mechanics of an entire game, especially when said game is in the "rules lite" category. That would be unfair to the author.

A review is to inform the reader what a game is about, not tell a reader blow for blow how every single game mechanic works. That, believe it or not, is what the GAME MANUAL is for.

More to the point: If you really want to know how things work then buy the game. Otherwise you're complaining only for the sake of stirring up trouble, and that spells TROLL.

If the game concept sounds interesting to you then, by all means, support the author. If it doesn't then don't. It's your call.

Kind Regards,

Kester Pelagius

Note that the underlying system of MNPR:RPG is now freely available from this page:

http://www.atomicsockmonkey.com/freebies.asp#pdq

Or directly as:
http://www.atomicsockmonkey.com/freebies/di/pdq-core.pdf

Many of the questions -- though not all -- people are asking would be answered by taking a look-see.
