[RPG]: The Eight Kings (Maze of Zayene Part 4, M4), reviewed by NPC Jeremy (3/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10622.phtml

Jeremy Reaban's Summary:

At last, the fourth and final module in the Maze of Zayene series has finally been published for d20. If you liked the earlier ones, you'll love this. If not, well, then you still might like this, if you like real real old school modules. Or have an interest in Greyhawk.

Mazes

Sounds like one of the better mazes in the world of rpg adventure - which is to say: "pretty damn frustrating and as much fun as a poke in the eye with a sharp stick."

Has anyone ever had a good session that involved a puzzle filled maze?

yuck.

Challenge Ratings for Traps

G'day!

Yes, I'm responsible for much of the conversion of the module (and the D&D Miniatures News site), and for the fact that the traps don't have challenge ratings. :-(

My apologies - that just slipped right past me. About a week before the product was to debut at GenCon, it occured to me that I probably hadn't listed any CRs for the traps. It has been preying on my mind since then.

I can only offer my apologies for that. Oh, and probably some errata. I'll have a look at the module again and create a list of the challenge ratings for the traps. I'll try to post that tonight.

It just goes to show me how different it is to _convert_ a module rather than create one from scratch. I'll know better next time - if there is a next time. :^)

Cheers,
Merric Blackman

When is a trap a trap? When is a trap a trick? When should you give experience for encounters?

If you'd like Challenge Ratings for everything, I suggest the following:

4A: CR 8 (only if outsider or elemental)
5: CR 2
6A: CR 3
6B: CR 3
6C: CR 3
6D: CR 3
6E: CR 6
8: CR 6
9: CR 4
10: CR 7
15 (south) CR 10
15 (east) CR 7
26: CR 2
32: who knows? (Let's say CR10, just for cumulative effect!)
42: CR 6

Those are a big rough-and-ready, when I get more time I may refine them.

Best wishes,
Merric Blackman
