Matthew Muth's Summary:

Fun, fast and easy. Hysterical reading. Should be on every GM's shelf!

Perversity points

Post originally by Jon Finn at 2004-10-04 06:16:03
Converted from Phorums BB System

I'd like to emphasise how perversity points (PP) work: they're not used in addition to modifiers, they ARE the modifiers.

For example, a player can attempt to repair a docbot and decide to spend three PP to make it easier. Other players may then be able to chip in with their PP, either for or against the attempt. Once all bids are in and the die is cast, it's up to the GM to interpret how the bids affected the attempt. "Joe-R scrambles to repair the spinning and sparking docbot. Luckily he's familiar with this model but just as he takes the service panel off a fire alarm sounds and the room starts to fill with halon gas..."

Short Version: I Agree

I've got a review pending myself, but basically I've got the same conclusion. I was very excited about PARANOIA returning to print, but I didn't expect the new edition to have this much material. Supporting three styles of play was also a stroke of genius. It's in the running for game of the year as far as I'm concerned.

Great review, Matthew! I especially like the comparisons to previous editions. (Not that I own any of them -- I'm just naturally just curious. )
