http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10755.phtml

Cynthia Celeste Miller's Summary:

This lightning-fast card game is comprehensive, easy to learn and fun to play. If you're a fan of classic wrestling, you can't go wrong with LoW and Rematch!

I'm torn...

I'm more interested in Champions of the Galaxy than Legends of Wrestling, but as I understand it the two are similar enough for the issue to apply to both.

It looks like a fun toy. But I'm not sure it's really a game. There apears to be minimal, if any, decisions to be made during play. I can see it being good as a simulation exercise, or as a simple dice-off competition, but that's it.

If it came with chargen rules I'd be more tempted, because then you've got the skill involved in building an effective character and seeing how s/he does against everyone else's. But as it stands...I don't know.

So, people who own and like either CotG or LoW: what exactly do you do with them?

Go for Champions of the Galaxy...

It is fantastic. While there are few descisions to be made during game play (at some points you can decide what move the wrestler does) it is more of a booking simulation.

But that is where the fun lies. You get to set up your own ferderation and run it with all the titles and story lines.

Making your own rules is no problem (I run a heavily modified game - no charts at all). More than that you can make your own wrestlers.

It is surprising to see how much you can get into a match. It is only dice but when when you get favorite wrestlers gogin for a title shot - you get excited (at least I do).

As for Champions of the Galaxy itself: they just came out with a new edition. It basically restarts the whole fed (at some 32 editions as of now) at ground zero so it a perfect time to start.

I can't recomend this game highly enough.

Hmmm...

The new edition is the $39 one, right? I think I'd probably be going for the $19 one if I do decide to invest, unless there's anything particularly special in the big one.

Are there official wrestler creation rules? I know a lot of fans do custom characters, I've seen some vague guidelines from Tom, and I recall seeing an old random-ish chargen system from Baby Cyndi (who I only just realised is in fact CCM).

I have all the early CotG games, and it is very good. When I'm bored, I'll break it out do a random draw tourney w/ all the wrestlers that I have. (about 100)

I want the Legends set, but where is Baron Von Raske? Until he is included, I won't buy it.

The $39 one has ALL the wrestlers you'll need to play the current year (2119). The $19 one only has the newly incoming or updated wrestlers for that year. Usually you need to get the previous editons in order to have all the wrestlers for the current year. But 2119 is a New Beginning so they came out with a starter pack about 25 or so wrestlers - the entire fedration in other words.

The are some rules for wreslter creation rules on the website. They are basically guidelines on what a wrestler card must and can't have.

The Good Baron

I know of a fantastic fan-created wrestler card of the Baron. I use it in my fed myself and feel it's an accurate portrayal of him. If you'd like, I could email it to you. Drop me a line.

Yep, that's me.

In any case, my old character creation rules tend to produce pretty powerful characters. These days, I create wrestlers sans system, going with what sounds reasonable.
