Neat!

That sounds entertaining.
So does Mystery of the Abbey.

I have a question about Castle:
What do the siege engines really do? A sub-area to move cards off the board?

I'd imagine siege engines would actually battle the castle, and it doesn't sound that way.

The Siege Engines go outside, no more than one per wall, and when a 4th one goes down, all the soldiers on the walls are sent back. If you look at the "Castle Complete" picture that's a siege engine just to the left and just to the right of the castle.

(As I recall in that game, 4 siege engines did go down, sending back soldiers that weren't protected by the "captain" [a special soldier who protects the other 3 cards on his wall].)

Anyway, I agree that both Castle and Mystery are neat for many of the same reasons: they're colorful, evocative, and a bit crazy.

Castle Variants

Just a note on Castle. I really have always adored this game when played with 2 or 3 players.

You really should look at Bruno's variant page, however.

There is nothing in the original rules that prevents you from drawing all of your cards first, then playing out the huge hand. In fact, this is the ideal way to play, but it bogs the game down.

Bruno's variant forbids you to draw two cards on a turn. That way, your hand size tends to stay low.

Moo,
Frank
