[Board/Tactical Game]: The Settlers of Nurnberg, reviewed by ShannonA (5/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10891.phtml

Shannon Appelcline's Summary:

More strategic and less random than the original Settlers of Catan, this is clearly the best variant for the more hardcore gamer.

Replay Value?

One of the features of the original "Settlers" that I like is that you can change the layout of the island with every game. Obviously, you can't do that with this variant. How does this affect the replay value of this game?

Thanks for the review. I grew up near Nürnberg - my home town would probably be located in the forest field directly north-east of the city. This game was created for the 1000-year anniversary of Nürnberg, but I never had the opportunity to check it out...

Oh, and...

"actually, I didn't know if I should put the event deck on "Ereigniskarten Stapel" and the discards on "abgelegte Ereigniskarten" or vice-versa, but who cares"

The first way.

Yeah, it's replay value is probably lower than the original Settlers, but I think it's still good.

Personally, I've got a number of these set board variants (including the 2 historical scenarios and settlers of canaan) so for me that's just as good as having a variable board, because I can just change games.

If you just had the one, and were a Settlers fan, you probably wouldn't want to play it constantly, but I'm sure it'd be worth 5+ games a year.
