[RPG]: Castles and Crusades Players Handbook, reviewed by Akrasia (4/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/11/11008.phtml

Akrasia (ben)'s Summary:

If you want a fast paced FRPG that facilitates house rules and makes playing with a minimal amount of prep work possible, then Castles and Crusades might be just what you are looking for. C&C is 'old school' Dungeons and Dragons for the 21st century!

Magic in C&C?

So how does the magic system work? IS it entirely like OD&D or is there a spell points system?

It has the D&D Vancian style magic, though I know there is going to be at least one crusader article on a spell point system, and also I believe it will be discussed in the CKG

Hum. The preamble almost killed my interest in the review... and the game. Luckily it seems that neither have much to do with it.

The preamble was not only very funny, but it illustrated the often ridiculous nature of the 3/3.5 game. While I do enjoy the customization aspects, there is something to be said of classic D&D. I'll have to check this book out now.

I'm just glad I ordered the book before I read this, personally.

Cheers,

A note

Had a very quick glance at this in the FLGS. My main impression was that the layout is not great. It's crammed with dense text, and doesn't space sections to make it easier on the eye. The visual message is, "Only for dedicated readers".
