Thanks! I'm looking forward to the sequel, wherein she apparently introduces other supernatural races. Also, as I understand it, on her website there are "freebie" fiction pieces about Elena and the Pack. I haven't ready any of them yet, though.

You're right that there's not much good werewolf fiction about, although I'd list Company of Wolves as one of the better films, plus Ginger Snaps (and I like Howling III, but I understand the many who don't).
I enjoyed Robert Stallman's trilogy of novels (The Orphan, The Captive, The Beast), and I've heard good things about The Wolf's Hour by Robert McCammon.

if you're looking for good werewolf stories, try some early angela carter. some of her short stories reworked myths such as red riding hood right down to the bare bones. great stuff

I picked up Dime Store Magic from the library and could barely get though 50 pages before dropping it. Perhaps it is because I came in at the middle, but I found the writing uninspired, the situations tedious, and the characters flat.
It might make good reading on a long flight or somewhere that one couldn't really concentrate.
