Thanks for the review, well done. I think lack of sleep ate my brain at the end, but that's ok I'll work on improving the mechanics when I get back to HMM for a full game someday. (Got three other projects first for sure.) I was just looking it over the other day and seeing how I could improve. For the record: Yes the GM takes any dice that doesn't succeed at a task for use against the Pc's. The High and low chord thing was meant to be important for groups (i.e if one person chooses high, and another low, they can get a dischord bonus useful mostly for Wizardry and combat.) while if both use the same chord (or all band members if all are involved) they can get a synetgy bonus--useful for social interactions and things like Contagion Alchemy. I just didn't get that far ;(

Kewl!
To your credit, it feels like a complete game with some tweaking needed as opposed to an incomplete game, which is quite an acheivement in 24 hours. And the ideas you have presented here sound really cool (pun intended). Thanks, yourself!

To be fair, I think all games need an index, in a 24 hour game where your trying to /write/ from scratch its a bit harsh. But all games should have indexes.

OK this is a fair question.
An index is a sign that some thought went into organizing the info in a useful and intelligable format. For myself reading through it, it makes it much simpler to grasp what is being attempted and get a handle on where the game is going. Spending an hour or two on formatting the ideas either before starting to write or after you have the main body is something I would consider invaluable in order to present the material to someone else who is going to pick it up and read it. And, like appearance, I consider this to very much be a part of the challenge. Sure it cuts into your writing time, much like searching for or making art does; but it improves the final work in the sense that someone is much more likely to pick up and have a go at something that is both visually appealing and had a logical, easy to grasp methodology for presenting the ideas.
I think I am taking the Formatting concept a bit broader than I used to in my last reviews: previously I used to specifically mark on size of document and other factual elements, but I have found myself moving towards including the formatting of the ideas and the structure of the whole work.

I'm amazed you even bothered to review my game, but I want to thank you for taking the time. It was my first attempt, and only about 5 hours of work all told. I've been thinking about a new version for a while (such as the ability to inflict more than one hit when sucesful) if anyone else here has some sugestions, please, post them!
I'm an english major three weeks from graduation, and I want to write games. TAke a look at another quickly designed game -Gangland - on my website http://flanker39.tripod.com I know its not much, but I'm not going to put up my magnum opus for free.

You're welcome. It is a good effort for a first time go. I really liked the concept of Cold in this, I think it has real promise.
This challenge was instrumental to me getting things started for my own publishing work, and I cannot recommend it highly enough for getting the impetus to get going in doing what you want to do. Very good luck!

No an Index is not a table of contents--one is a chapter heading list with key breakdowns the other is pretty much "every term in the game that might possibly need to be looked up" with page numbers.

---Making a PC
etc.
