Joe,

Thanks for the review. You've cemented this to my list of must haves.

Where did you find it for $26 - lowest I've been able to find is online for about $40.

Thanks,

End game problematic?

I've read that the endgame can be very anticlimactic, and that it simply involves a giant monster battle royale which simply involves the rolling of dice over and over again until someone wins?

Worth commenting on? I'd buy the game, but this one thing seems to be holding me back from purchasing it...

Agreed! Good job. The game sounds like loads of fun.

Not a new game

WOTC/Avalon Hill released this game a number of years ago.

Still a good review and it really is an entertaining beer and pretzels game.

The review REALLY could have used some editing, but I'm grateful for the information.

Yep, it was originally produced in the days when Avalon Hill was it's own company and not a drone of Hasborg and it was called "Monsters Ravage America". Good game, and a regular fixture at the World Boardgaming Championships each year.

I have it, but I'll probably pick this one up too just for the new components.

Yes, the monster challenge is pretty dry. Fortunately, it's pretty quick and fits with the genre (the big kaiju on kaiju fight at the end of every Godzilla film.)

It just takes a couple of minutes to wrap up. It does feel a little anti-climatic, but in the couple of games we've played so far it was not a deal breaker. We still had fun and we're looking forward to playing it again.

It's not a new game, but there are some changes:

* Only two monsters made the cut, the other four are all new
* Changes to the map, and the balance of the locations
* Infamy vs. Health balance
* Spanking new components
* Updated mutations and technologies

I never played MRA, but I agree that MMA is an entertaining beer & pretzeler.

Thanks for the specific differences between editions. I liked the old edition, but this one does sound much better.
