With so much expected of AoM (given the TEW factor), it is not surprising Ashes disappoints. It does give new players a structured flavour of the Warhammer World – though in a flawed manner. Needs more development.

I would be most interested in any pointers to more of the useful discussion (last in the review).
After all, many WFRP-ers will buy this, so I gather there's plenty of recognition to be had by anyone that does some good fleshing out of the AoM adventure.

Because Chaos is the stronger religion. But mostly, because this is Warhammer, and EVERYONE worships chaos.
I agree that the bad guy is a bit too dimensional, though. The start is a bit wonky and linear, and it could use more grounding in the setting given the political shenannigans that happen in it. But any player in a WFRP game SHOULD be aware of the Ulric/Sigmar rivalry!!
Also, the trial scene is just BRILLIANT, the skull is hilarious, the temple fight nicely ouchy, and the climax suitably WFRPian.
It's akin to a small Death on the Reik, but needing a bit more flesh on the bones. It's got great potential though.

I think that people in civilised societies might worship Chaos for various reasons. The clasic WHFRP one is that they are seduced by decadence, by drugs, sex, S&M, power and/or greed. For those that live in Chaos lands there is simply no choice, the culture demands it, and if the creatures are warped by Chaos they may well be predisposded to it. Since I think that the decadent practices of the Chaos Gods sound right up my street, withiout thinking they inevitably lead to genocide and collapse of society then I guess I'd be on of the poor fools worshipping in secret!

Me too. But that's exactly what the book could have done with: more people sympathetic to Chaos for the various reasons a normal life brings, and less people worshiping Stupid Chaos intent on genocide and the collapse of society.
