Your favourite in-game weapon, and why.

Okay, this is probably going to turn into a katana wank-fest, but; what is your favourite in-game weapon and why?

I am thinking more pre-C17th muscle-powered weapons here rather than guns, but modern knives are accepted. Naturally, as very few modern people have actually used any of these weapons for real, most of this discussion is going to be completely subjective and might even include reasons like "I love the look" or "I remember a favourite character had one". No matter; if it is your favourite, it belongs in this thread.

I will start the discussion with the pollaxe. A weapon designed to be both offensive and defensive, with a head combining a combination of warhammer or pick, axe and spear. The pollaxe is fast, maneuverable, capable of tripping and grappling, and can be used to deliver a real bitch of a blow to an off-balance opponent.

Your favourite?

I always liked the Bastard Sword, just because you could wield it either one-handed or two-handed (though sadly D&D CRPGs don't allow such handling). Yeah, it's a lame, Fantasy warrior's katana.

Gotta be the Calico 950 for me personally.

Fairly concealable, and can carry either a 50 or 100 round magazine. Perfect for spraying the landscape with hot lead.

Not quite as muscle powered or pre-C17th as a pollaxe, however.

Re: Your favourite in-game weapon, and why.

Depends on the purpose. For mass combat, or fights where you've got some room, I have a great appreciation for halberds.

On the other hand, for a more personal weapon, or for closer-in work... well, can't go wrong with a kukri. I've been lucky enough to handle the real thing... oooo, so sweet!

Buuuut... I'll always have a soft spot for a lot of the more... exotic Chinese weapons... I mean, how can you not love a weapon called the Iron Mandarin Duck?

Or a mace that's shaped like a giant metal hand, holding a pen?

Or a mace that's shaped like a freakin' GIANT OSCAR STATUE, made out of brass?

Re: Your favourite in-game weapon, and why.

I've never found anything I like quite as much as the more old-fashioned weapons. My favorite is still the rapier, but I'm kind of fond of small, traditional, easily-concealable pistols.

Darn, that pretty much excludes everything I like. Closest would be crossbows, then. I like to "reach out and touch someone", so to speak.

Hmmmm. Chinese weapons....

I like the Chinese swords and polearms. I played a Chinese martial artist in Champions once, just to play with Chinese weapons. How sad is that?

lol. Never mind, you can still have your gun. We will just sit back and mock you while poking you with sticks.
