just a quick post before i head out for the evening
i love the revolver/ luger cross breed, it looks like a one-shot gun or perhaps it uses the feeder system like in the US's first repeater rifle.
the last gun looks nice ,if bit bright, one thing is the rounds in the stash on the stock, they should point down or lat least have a cover, if one of those went off by accident/ jolt etc, good bye armpit etc. it can happen. still very nice designs and good use of a vector package, was it illustrator or flash or one of the lesser known variations on the market

Thanks for checking in everyone,
The large gun is indeed "Vera"
John, This is the favorite gun of one of the major characters in the movie, and he keeps it in tip-top shape-thus I wanted to keep it very clean. I understand the problem with the placement of the shells/cartridges but I was working off stills from the show. This gun is a prop from the show, and the art also had to go through Universals licensing department, so I had no room to fudge things (and the fans would kill me if I did).
The guns were rendered in Illustrator, with a tiny bit of Photoshop painting on top. I decided to go the Vector route after seeing what some of the other artists were doing on the book. 3D rendered ships and tightly rendered maps. I thought the vector stuff would fit right in. I can't wait to see the Serenity movie, it opens September 30th.
hey Bryce - nice vector work all 'round, that top pistol's my favorite but that's probably just because I favor the vintage gunmetal look to the shinier hi-tech version. The flash suppressor/muzzle bit on Vera is nicely textured, good metal effects there (*takes notes*)
Nice Illustrator skills. There is a lot of cool details on these. The top gun is also my favorite. It's probably because it looks like it has volume to it. The bottom one, Vera, has great detail but when it gets to the volume you kinda loose it. The Drop shadow on it may be hindering it. It cuts to close to the gun or it may be placed to far from it causing it to loose its mass. The Armor looks good and holds it's shape well. Since I'm not familiar with Serenity I can't give you any comments on how faithful to the subject mater your illustrations are. cool work
