There's a good practical reason for handwaving away the possibility of finding worlds with a future date and appropriate technological developments; they're going to make any Infinite Worlds campaign explode into fragments. All that super-tech is a GM's headache and three-quarters.
GMs could always add such things, but really shouldn't. Frankly, Caliph (a world with a past date but highly advanced technology) is enough of a problem.
The generic sections on true time travel games could maybe have paid more attention to the subject, but, well, it's a large can of worms.

There is no such thing as too much bitching about Sliders, especially if you're trying to persuade somebody that fiction based on alternate dimensions is not inherently crap. Best to distance yourself from the atrocious media adaptation in no uncertain terms. cf. Dungeons & Dragons, The Movie.
Seriously, the existence of that dorky show makes selling players on Infinite Worlds, no matter how good it may be, an uphill battle.

I don't understand why Sliders is so hated. I watched and enjoyed the show. It wasn't a masterpiece by any means, and it degenerated in later years, but it sets up the premise quite well. If you want to explain to someone how alternate Earths work, watching the show is a good, quick introduction.

Well, I think you covered it best there: It was good early on, but degenerated in later years, especially with the whole Cromag storyline bit, as well as the loss of most of the original cast.
