On a 6, you're the GM

Good review, Evan. Reviewing something you don't like well is hard; but I think you did a good job.

On a 6, you're the GM! I think that's a wonderful mechanic, although perhaps looking for a better home.

I'm pretty sure it would have fitted beautifully in Soap.

A lot of people say they have a hard time imagining how EoS will actually play. Darrick, perhaps you should post a link to a play report (I know I've seen at least one posted).

That is going to be difficult since he has been banned recently...

Ah, yes, in the last review thread. Well then, for anyone who's interested, here's a play report, posted at The Forge, along with some discussion: Scenes from Satanis (It's an old thread though, so as per Forge etiquette, don't post to it.)

I just wanted to chime in and share how much I am enjoying the forum threads for EoS reviews. The entertainment value is tremendous.

Unlike Sinnibarr, Senzar or other unmentionable games the fact this one is lousy AND free does seperate itself from the pack...

Awsome review. In my experience here, sometimes reviewing really awful games is more fun (and challenging) than reviewing average ones...

Re: [RPG]: Empire of Satanis, reviewed by Evan Waters (1/2)

This is a bad game. Very bad. Very, very, very bad.

It is made slightly worse by the following:

1) Darrick's aggressive promotion of the game

2) Darrick's unwillingness to take into account criticism and discussion surrounding the game. He ended up posting to the Forge, where people were quite tolerant and helpful, but he just didn't seem to take into account what people were saying

3) This game is overly-enthusiastic and heart-breaking in a way. This game sucks. Yet the author is convinced that this game really brings something new to the table.

4) This game is being sold as a "Satan meets Cthulhu" game, but it is not Lovecraftian at all.

5) This game is puerile. Nonsensical. It is like re-experiencing all the bad aspects of being 14 years old.

This would be because the author worships both Satan and Cthulhu, and is, in fact, so evil that the Church of Satan kicked him out.

Edit: Great review, Evan.
