Good review, fun book

I think the focus on their archtypes is a little rigid and encourages mages to over specialize, but the book is loaded with great tidbits. The details on the meta-magic feats and damage, the magic items comparisons, the skill advice (including synergies) is all great.

I agree with NPC Jeremy and CMD: this is a solid book. It is especially useful to either/both d20 newbies and folks not used to arcane spellcasters. I fall into the latter camp.

Jeremy's review is excellent, though, because it points out the flaws- or better put, the shortcomings. As a mad-multiclasser, I really wanted details on the "never give up caster levels" idea that I see expressed frequently, and alternatives to avoid/minimize the damage of doing that. I also totally agree with Jeremy's points about the lack of PrCs in the consideration, especially for arcane casters where trade-offs of spells/slots is critical to the characters' effectiveness.

My additional critique that I would add is that the charts and tables were not always clear and intuitive- additional explanation would have helped me fully understand them. (I am one of those guys who likes text more than graphics. Heh.)

That said, the book is still really, really good and useful. I think all of Jeremy's critiques (and my own) are just ways it would have been even better.
