[Card Game]: Fairy Tale, reviewed by ShannonA (5/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/11/11967.phtml

Shannon Appelcline's Summary:

An excellent card game with Magic: The Gathering-like card drafting, and simultaneous play, also featuring beautiful anime-influenced artwork.

Fun, but lacking theme!

Don't get me wrong, I like this game, but the theme feels entirely tacked on. Where exactly is the "fairy tale" and how come it seems it really doesn't matter?

Otherwise, I like your explanation on scoring far better than the meager attempt offered in the rules. Good golly, it took my wife and I several plays (and consulting a well-known boardgame site [which I see you frequent, as well, Shannon]) before we we're sure we were scoring the game the correct way.

Good review!

Generally, most card games, especially from the Eurodesign school, have light themes. Coloretto, King's Breakfast, and any number of others could be about pretty much anything. I though this one was more thematic than most because of the beautiful art and the fact that the various suits generally seemed to form a cohesive whole.

As for where the fairy tales are: in the chapter cards.

"Together the Fairy Queen and the Sword King hunted down the Shadow."

"The Magic Circle of Chaos closed over the Vampire, cutting off his final scream."
