[RPG]: A Wushu Guide to Car Fu, reviewed by Menchi (4/3)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12049.phtml

Conan McKegg's Summary:

A supplemental guide for handling vehicle chases and combats. Unfortunately not enough done to effectively create the atmosphere required for exciting chases. Too much reliance on the standard mechanic for kung fu fights being able to just carry the tension over.

Good review

Again, thanks for the thoughtful and honest review. Chase scenes are often under-used in RPGs and that neglect has made Car-Fu the red-headed stepchild of the Wushu Guides, despite it being the first and my personal favorite.

I have to say, though, that I don't quite understand your point about tension. If you're talking about the gradual ramping up of action, there are many ways to make a Wushu conflict last longer (dice pool caps, Threat Ratings, etc). If you're talking about the tension that comes from the threat of failure, then I'd say Wushu's lack thereof is a feature, not a bug.

I hope you can find room for a car chase when you run your playtest session and let us know how it goes. As is often the case, my writing doesn't live up to Wushu's potential.
