[RPG]: Empire of Satanis, reviewed by Menchi (2/2)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12058.phtml

Conan McKegg's Summary:

A game that spends a little too much time trying to be shocking for the sake of rebellion and not enough time on fleshing out a reasonably interesting setting. Without a clear, mature theme in mind it struggles with what kind of a game it is trying to be. Finally, the systems are simple but need some cohesion.

Mechanics

The chance of rolling a 7 is equal to the chance of getting at least one 6.

I calculate this as (to the nearest 1%)

Dice
1 17%
2 31%
3 42%
4 52%
5 60%
6 67%
7 72%
8 77%
9 81%
10 84%

It occurs to me that, although it isn't intentional, this game might be very well-geared toward satirizing social groups that tend to compete with one another to see who can be the most dark, brooding, and mysterious. In this respect, I almost think it might be worth purchasing, although without reading it myself, I can't really make that determination. I considered buying the softcover version, but don't much care for ordering through Lulu (I had no idea that there was a hardcover version).

I think Mr. Dishaw deserves props for getting so many people to read the multiple reviews of this title. There's no such thing as bad publicity.

Yes there is, but it's better than no publicity at all.

Hmm... I read it... I was thinking of doing a review, but, really.

What struck me as hilarious was that there's an ongoing tentacle fetish in the upper ranks, but the prostitutes themselves have tentacles. So close, in the sense that he was aiming for a bullseye, but somehow forgot that he didn't have a gun but rather a large and annoyed rooster.

Hurray for plokamiphilia!

But seriously, I do begin to wonder if there has been a substantial update since I downloaded my copy of the game. I mean kudos if Darrik has been taking note of reviews and updating the product, 'cause a lot of it desperately needed altering when I saw it last. Especially the fiction. Oh ye gods the fiction was bad.

Have they added Prinnies yet? Until they do, I'm not paying money for it.
