[Wushu] Building an index or FAQ

I notice a lot of threads on Wushu recently, with a lot of good sage advice given out on a number of points. But we have a tendency not to capture them, and I can't help but think there's a lot of good material going untapped as a result.

I know several people have talked about writing something up, but given a lot of us are strapped for time we've not seen anything as yet. So as both a stop-gap and perhaps a useful resource for those people, I propose we start writing a FAQ of sorts here.

For my part, I'm going to go back and list all the threads I can find of relevance (at least without dipping into the Archives). I'll update as I go and if anyone finds any other, older ones that are relevant. It was actually easier than it might sound, mostly because I posted in nearly all of them!

Help threads:
Chi and Healing (goodies from Bailywolf and DanMcS)
Mechanics for defeat (some especially good stuff from Lord Minx)
Is it a viral meme that infects your tastes (aside from my gushing, there's some good bits)
Niche Protection (Bailywolf and Kicker on fine form)
Wushu Supers (Bailywolf and Lord Minx in full flow)
Detail Types (Kicker had some useful observations)
Magic-heavy system help (mEGA playing around with adding a little magic crunch)
One-shot for newbies (lots of people giving me some advice as to how to run it for newbies)
Collected Wushu Wisdom (an earlier attempt by John Marron to do what I'm doing)
Coup de Grace Question (quick clarification)
Mass Combat (I got lurned by numerous posters)
Adaptive Adventure Structuring (Kicker with some ideas)
Fast Cars, Starships and other Vehicular Mayhem (some alternate ways of doing vehicles, and Organisation rules)
I read Wushu and didn't get it (I've been there...)
Please explain Wushu to me (some wonderful examples of non-combat conflicts, courtesy of Bailywolf)
Rules Questions (an old one from back in '04)
What's been done with Wushu Open (some good back and forth between Kicker and DanMcS on how it all works)
Will Wushu Work for me? (a great deconstruction of Wushu by DaR)
Wushu Question (the old "don't describe winning on your first roll" issue)
Combat Yin&Yang (some clarification and examples of splitting dice)
Traits (some ideas on what to use)
When do you stop? (on ending a run of Details)
What's to prevent an "instant kill" action
Make your own Traits and Game Balance (general thread on Wushu and others)
Can you explainify me Wushu Matrix?
Losing Chi Question (about Car-Fu)
Replacing Scab Rolls
Am I just an idiot? (about Weaknesses/Flaws)
Help me crystallise... (...how this works)
"Weak" PCs (non-action settings)
Quick Wushu Question (on mooks vs Nemeses)
Principle of Narrative Truth
Making conflicts hurt (musings on modelling loss wider than Chi)
Any hints and tips for a new GM? (a bit on "falling damage")
...I don't get it (broken down roll-by-roll)
Superhero rules add-ins (stuff on running Nemeses)
Wushu and character death (ideas on bringing in death and even incentivising it)
Some clarification please (on Yin and Yang dice)
Yin yang dice pool (again)
Wushu and Lethal Narratives (the old "headless ninja" again)
Having a spot of trouble (coming up with Details on the fly)
Huh? (another clueless thread)
Wushu What? Narrative Truth bafflement (how to regulate it all)
Social Fu (back when I didn't get it)
How do you handle shapeshifters (why you don't need "separate traits for each form")
More Questions (describing Chi loss)

Actual Play threads:
Never Say Mother Again
Gotham Nights
Cloak of Shadows Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3
Hughes' Illuminated Operatives
Wushu at GenCon

Others:

What are you doing?
I wanna hear stories, dammit! (Dan getting feedback)
...whatcha doing with it? (again "what are we doing")
What are we doing with Wushu (some scraps in there)
The Wushu that you do (another "what are we doing with it" thread)

Meta/rules stuff
Locations Redux
Locations and player-driven games
Alternate Setback mechanics
Modding up the Wushu rules (talking about playing-card mechanics)
Foreshadowing Dice (Emprint's alternate mechanic to Held Dice)

Example characters
Stat up everything (example characters)
Stat the Hero (a much earlier attempt than my own above)

Sell me
Sell me on...
Anyone tried Car-Fu?
Wushu vs Heroquest

Settings/Conversions

General
Building a Wuxia Space Opera Epic (Karasu's early musings on an Exalted/Gundam-esque setting)
Deathsword Reloaded (rbingham2000 and I riff on a setting)
Wushu and Feng Shui
Wushu and 40k
Angel/Buffyverse Wushu (Bailywolf does the Whedonverse)
High Fantasy, Wushu Style (ideas on D&D-styled games, also link to Dungeon-Punk)
Brainstorming Mythic Investigators
Wushu Falkenstein
For epics, sagas and legends
God-Fu (DannyK's Nobilis convo)
Van Helsing (Bailywolf does the monster-hunter thing)
Monster-Punk
Biting Danger! (Emprint's play-the-monster game)
Honor, betrayal and Mantis Style (Bailywolf does Shaw Brothers)
Under London
Amber: Savagery and Splendour
Funky One-Score Implementation
Nexus: The Infinite City (Bailywolf's take on an old favourite)
Qi - A Wushu variant for character-driven games
Conjuring and Binding (magicians in Sword&Sorcery games)
Roleplaying in Republican Rome

Star Wars
Star Wars rules refinements
Star Wars (led to voidstate's version)
Wushu for Clone Wars (high-action Star Wars)
Darksiders (Dan's Sith/Darksider Star Wars game)

Supers
Bailywolf's Super-Fu
X-Men (another collaborative supers thing)
Superheroes? (Emprint does supers)

Phew! There we have it. I've not done a Google to peruse the archives, so there might be more. I think that's enough to be getting on with, though. I've now done the Archives too. I've captured everything with "Wushu" in the title. Anyone has links to other threads containing Wushu gems, they'd be most appreciated.

Re: [Wushu] Building an index or FAQ

Thank you, Kiero. I was going to print out & bind as much Wushu stuff as I could find. This helps a lot.

Did you locate Bailywolf's very cool "Star Wars Wushu" thread, about adapting the Dark/Light Side to Wushu mechanics?

Best I could do was him talking about it in this thread. Not even a Google search of Star Wars Wushu rendered it.

The only other one I could find. I thought there was a much longer thread on the topic, but I could be confusing it or merging the two threads in my grad school-addled brain

What about the Wushu Wiki? Was there a reason to not put this stuff there?

Yes, you may suggest it, and yes, I know about it . Emprint maintains the wushu open wiki, which I just noticed is getting spam-attacked right now, but it's where we've been putting stuff like this.

That's the eventual goal, to put it there for posterity. But before that can happen, we have to collect all this stuff together and bash it into a form that will work on there. That's why I did the grunt-work of collecting what I could find as the first step.

I just tried a trawl of Google on Wushu, but only got another couple of threads. The archiving it uses for the fora is quirky to say the least. I never did find that thread I did on Roman Wushu with my own Structured Chargen...
