James D. Hargrove's Summary:

A somewhat disappointing, but still worthwhile end to the infamous Arduin Grimoire product line.

I'm a little sad to hear the End War is such a mixed bag, but not really surprised as such - given that this is the equivalent of Led Zeppelin's Coda, i.e. lost notes, unfinished ideas, and stuff that may not have made the cut from earlier volumes.

That said, I'll probably eventually pick it up just for the 'Casting The Cards' section.

I recently spoke to George over at Emperor's Choice and learned that End War was actually the first Grimoire that they published, so this accounts for some of the aspects in which I found it lacking (i.e., in addition to making use of lost notes and the like, it was thier first real foray into publishing).

The card casting rules are definitely worthwhile if you own Swords & Dragons, as they provide (yet another) use for the game as a roleplaying accessory. I was a huge fan of the SNES Ogre Battle because of the card-based character creation, so this aspect of End War really appealed to me. It really fosters a sense of wonder.
