Cthulhu goes to college! Well, your Call of Cthulhu characters can anyway, with the help of this very comprehensive sourcebook on the fictional but famous Miskatonic University of Arkham. Pretty good, but suffers from a few flaws, including adding the rather worn out Templars to the Cthulhuverse.

Great job, Jeremy -- especially for a first review!
Can you go into a bit more detail about the hermetic spells in the book? Do they cost SAN as do Mythos spells?

That was an excellent review, but I wouldn't have minded a little more detail on certain points.
Specifically: Leprechauns? What the fuck? LEPRECHAUNS? Are they degenerate Little People, or do they have the green suit and the little hat? Do they spend all their time getting drunk on wee bottles of Guinness and picking fistfights with rats?
Good Lord.

My guess is that they're the same degenerate Little People who appeared in the 5th edition GM screen's adventure.
(Of course, good old-fashioned pixies appeared in the 4th edition bestiary, so who knows? )

Re: [RPG]: Miskatonic University, reviewed by NPC Jeremy (4/4)
They are a bit random, but I think they were taken from an existing source (probably the screen as Dan notes).
And pixies were in the game from the getgo, it's just that thankfully they got dropped in later editions, possibly because someone finally noticed how utterly bizarre an inclusion they were.
Re: [RPG]: Miskatonic University, reviewed by NPC Jeremy (4/4)
Possibly inspired by Arthur Machen's "The Novel of The Black Seal," which featured nasty faeries. Lovecraft's admiration for Arthur Machen was far from hidden. Though faeries aren't specifically Lovecraft canon, most tales about the "little people" indicate they really have a mean streak. Faeries aren't like Tinkerbell or the guy on the box of Lucky Charms -- they're far more insidious and, in many cases, evil.
Take it for what it's worth, but well-played faeries can make for really f*cked up investigators before it's over and done.
