Tell Me About the "Stardust" Movie

I understand that there is a film being made of Neil Gaiman's novel "Stardust". One of the reasons that I understand this is that a restaurant in town that I walk past regularly has had a redecoration job on the outside and a sign is up saying that it is being redecorated for use in "Stardust". (I'll try and take a picture next time that I pass) One of my tutors tells me that it's going to have Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Oh, okay, I could go and look up the rest of the information, but it will be nice to get it in one place, and I was just jazzed about spotting the place adapted for filming! I'll try and get pictures over the weekend, but if anyone has anything to add ...

Hell, you tell me about Stardust! This is the first I've heard of it and that is just odd - I'm usually on top of stuff like this. Color me ashamed

Neil Gaiman's blog has some notes about it too. He talks about looking at some of the pre-production sketches and making some suggestions for changes.

Re: Tell Me About the "Stardust" Movie

Thanks for the IMDB link, Old School Geek!

We went past again today and there's a painting up on the side of the cafe (the Briton's Arms on Elm Hill) renaming it, and with a knight standing over a fallen knight. I can't remember the name! (Half-Slaughtered Prince?) and the artist was up on a crane in front of it with the sun directly above him and the picture, so I couldn't get a good angle. I'll try again tomorrow. It looks like they're filming up there all week. A number of shops along one side of the street (including our FLGS!) have had their names painted out and windows redressed, with a stain applied roughly to paintwork to make it look old. It looks awful in closeup, but presumably effective on the big screen.

One of my tutors mentioned that it was De Niro and Pfeiffer involved, and said that he was hoping to bump into Ms P around town. As there are cafes at each end of the road where filming is taking place, I recommended staking them out.

I promise that I will try to get pictures tomorrow!

Re: Tell Me About the "Stardust" Movie

Okay, couple of pictures today! They're from a camera 'phone, so don't expect much. First, this is the "Briton's Arms" cafe (recommended, BTW!) remade as "The Slaughtered Prince"

And this is the back of a piece of scenery that was lying around, which shows that the street is being used for something called "Stormhold Market".

The street, which is called Elm Hill rather than Elm Street despite what the scenery above says, has been sprayed down with what seems like dirt - all across the walls of the buildings, presumably to give an aged look. There are market stalls set out with various goods on, including one featuring wolf pelts and bolts of nylon, although I expect that's a cheap substitute that will look more expensive on screen! Olive's coffee shop (also good!), where we stopped for a drink, was particularly busy because it was trying to provide twenty-odd coffees to all the crew!

There's a story about it in our local paper:
http://new.edp24.co.uk/content/news/...A59%3A54%3A597

Filming's tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll have the chance to pop down and take any pics.

Re: Tell Me About the "Stardust" Movie

Fellow Norwich-ians may be interested to know that they're filming from 4pm today (Monday) and through the night.

Don't know if DeNiro and gang are here, but it's just a one day shoot.

Re: Tell Me About the "Stardust" Movie

You know, that was one picture I forgot to get, Head On.

I got a few from the sides, as well as around the area.

For your information, it wasn't a crane, it was a vehicle mounted platform. Specifically an Iveco truck mount with a 22m Aerial platform. Working oneside jacking only (the upper hill side) and over the cab

The engine was off most of the time unless the basket was being moved or the vehicle being moved (rare)

It is being produced by Marv Films.

When you go on set say hello to the Medic and stop for a chat, they're really quite friendly and outgoing

The tall bloke (daytimes) is the security chap and they're full of life.

Chances are you won't get to see the senior people, as they'll be running around as headless chickens, as most usually do.

The "Stamp Shop" down the road is their mini office onsite

I think I'll go and hide now
