[RPG]: Critical Locations, reviewed by John Cooper (5/3)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12242.phtml

John Cooper's Summary:

As nice as the artwork is, Christopher West blows it all away with his 29 highly-detailed, full-color maps. These are the real meat of the book, and are what makes this a must-have for any GM running a d20 Modern game.

I've used this book. I don't run d20 Modern, so I didn't notice the mistakes in the stat blocks.

This book rocks in spite of the stuff you've mentioned. Just having the maps as a reference to description has been a life saver. I agree with your review of the game material, and even with the tiny details of the maps, but wow is this thing useful!

I'm not sure I can agree with you that all of those stats "mistakes" are actually errors. When creating new and interesting monsters they do not necessarily have to fit a particular mold. It would be the same thing as a DM tweaking a monster to fit the setting or the party.

Book Cost

Having worked in the copy industry I can tell you that .31 cents for high gloss color pages is an incredible bargain. Normal printing in a non professional industry (Office Max) it would cost nearly $1.50+ a page for that type of quality and it would not be edge to edge printing.

I am for one thankful that one of their product lines is still recieving paperback books. I'm tired of paying $30+ for every single new product that comes out.

I'm disappointed that a hospital wasn't included.
