[Board/Tactical Game]: Britannia, reviewed by torbenm (4/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12291.phtml

Torben Mogensen's Summary:

Fantasy Flight Games has republised the classical strategy game Britannia. The new version is, in my opinion, a clear improvement over the old, but there are a few annoying misprints that detract from the score.

Fond memories

I have fond memories of Britannia, even though I never won a game . It has a distinct feel to it of the ebb and flow of British history that is addictive. It is, as the review pointed out, a long game, but I would disagree about it being complex game as such. The actual mechanics are dead simple, the only complexity is keeping track of what all the various nations are doing from turn to turn in order to plan ahead. Its a game that does reward several playings so as to faliarise oneself with the pattern of the invasions. Just remember to be out of Southern England before the Norman invasion at the end of the game!

Re: Fond memories

I don't exaggerate if I say Britannia is my favourite boardgame ever.

Personally, I find the new edition an eyesore. It's really kept me from buying it.

But yeah, Britannia's up there for me with Shanghai Trader in terms of favourite boardgames.
