(Oblivion) Canvas the Castle

I'm stuck on the quest 'Canvas the Castle' where you have to help the countess of chorrol (i think :-p) recover a stolen painting. I just have no idea what to do next! I have;

1) Talked to every witness

2) Discovered hidden paint brushes in someones room

3) Discovered a hidden painting in the west tower

But there seems to be no four! ive been back and forth over every room in the castle, talked to everyone over and over again, accused back and forth, but nothing.

ANyone help me out?

This quest did verily piss-eth me off!!!

Check the corners of the rug under the table in the dining room. One of them should be splattered with paint.

I dunno how anyone was expected to find this without someone else telling them, or a good deal of luck.

BAD game designers!! No twinkie!!

Yup, painty footsteps in the dining room is what you need.

My girl (the one playing Obliv) was stuck on this too, and we had to resort to gamefaqs.com.

It's good to see that old-school pixelbitching is alive and well.

Also, be sure you really did talk to everyone. I had one person refuse to talk to me, no matter what I did... no speechcraft could make him tell me what I needed to know.

Then I remembered I had a Charm scroll tucked away. Solved that problem.

Re: (Oblivion) Canvas the Castle

The evidence points towards one suspect pretty heavily.

Check everyplace other people say they saw the suspect, and you'll find it.

Alternatively, on a corner of the rug in the kitchen.

It IS difficult to find if you're just looking for the painting itself. Most people figure out who did it instantly, so they don't go around searching for clues everywhere, which the game designers sort of wanted you to do.

Re: (Oblivion) Canvas the Castle

This was my second painting-related side-quest... I was wishing I'd've kept the magic paintbrush from the first one.
