War of the Worlds RPG

So I'm thinking, War of the Worlds by HG Wells is really just a bad RPG session. Total party kill, then GM Fiat to fix it. Man, H.G. Wells was shit for a DM.

Actually ... yeah. The book version especially: it's the Great British Railroad, in a big way. A near-TPK followed by a GM Fiat neatly describes how the story unfolds.

Doesn't make it not a good story - most novels don't neccessarily translate well into RPGs, per se.

The Call of Cthulhu Creature Companion has information on the Martians and their three-legged war machines. As well as information on the other more peacefull inhabitants of Mars. The whole section realy reminds me of the sencond installment of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Yeah maybe read The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vol 2 for a better RPG version

Try it out and see for yourself. I think this is one of two or three of the 1PG games I don't have, mostly because I never got around to it. But all the others are really good.

There's an Action version as well, which apparently includes the text of the novel.

Jesus, that comic kicked so much ass.

I mean, I liked volume one and all, but volume two is where the whole thing really came together.

And Moore's nasty twist on the end of the novel was just brilliant.

I reckon it was just background flavour.

The game starts now. Invasion over....ish. Some Martian war machines will alive on iron rations as they hadn't been drinking blood. They're getting desperate as their rations run out and waiting for the resupply from Mars. New machines, new rations...they're forewarned and forearmed.

Meanwhile on Earth, our scientists are making Earth-Mars technology hybrids - human war machines - ....they just need 2 fighter pilots, 2 field scientists and some support team members...

This actually sounds like LIVING STEEL....hmmmmmm

I miss Living Steel....
