[RPG]: DragonMech, reviewed by bardbloom (5/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12439.phtml

Bard Bloom's Summary:

Steampunk meets D&D. Hulking mechanical monsters made by dwarves and gnomes,
powered by steam or magic or hordes of undead. Remarkably well-done and
stylish.

Great review, Bard! You do an excellent job of explaining how the game incorporates mechs into a fantasy setting, which is, of course, the key to explaining why this game is worthwhile. Kudos!

Good review, but you didn't mention how a Dragonmech campaign differs from a normal D&D campaign in play. How do the mechs fit into the game world? Are they really common? Does every PC own one? Or are they rare/expensive things that the PCs would have to work very hard to get? Or maybe the mechs are owned by organisations who might employ the PCs to pilot them?
Can you give me an idea how it all works?

They're fairly common, but they are pretty expensive. Many states own 1-5 big ones (city-sized) , and a pile of smaller ones. Individuals or small groups can own them -- e.g., a band of pirates might hijack a mech and use it.

If I were running a game, I'd have the PCs be the crew of a mech, and use that to organize them (a pilot, a coglayer/engineer, a few more conventional characters), and to arrange stories (the mech crew needs to escort the troublesome Andorran ambassador to the elves! The mech crew hears about an invasion of Mind Layers!)
