As in, a pick-up character? Wouldn't be nearly as fun without the pulp novels and mutual co-starring...

Either way, I say. Make an iconic character, or the actual characters from your gaming group.

ROCK ON

Re: [SotC] Post your Spirit o the Century character! I Double Dog Dare Ya!

If I can get at least two others to go in on this with me, I'll make one up right now! I basically need two others in order to guest star in their pulp novels.

I'm also willing to make changes to my Aspects if people suggest something that's cooler than what I made up. I am not above stealing other peoples' awesome.

Hank Sinclair

Phase 1 - Background

Hank was born near Portsmouth, New Hampshire. His father took him on trips all across the world, and he developed an interest in and appreciation for artifacts and ruins of all stripes.

Aspects: "Everything has a story ...", Well-Travelled

Phase 2 - The Great War

Hank studied archaeology at Harvard, doing research in Europe when the Great War broke out! Assisting the Allies on occasion and battling brigands frequently, Hank finally made it home from war-ravaged Europe. Not long after Hank's return, Hank's father died, but not before revealing Hank's secret heritage ... Distantly related to the famous Henry Sinclair, Earl of the Orkneys and Templar, Hank discovers his family is descended from a long line of knights dedicated to seeking out the Holy Grail!

Aspects: Rough-Jawed Archaeologist, Scion of the Sinclairs

Phase 3 - Hank Sinclair in ... Deadly is the Night!

Hank fights diabolical creatures of the night! Ages ago, kings and lords of men drank too deeply from the Holy Grail, twisting their minds and bodies and becoming vampires! These insidious bloodsuckers will stop at nothing to reclaim the Grail and hold the world in the palms of their undead hands ... but Hank Sinclair stands in their way! Along the way he encounters femme fatale and rival Grail seeker Elise du Payens.

Aspects: The Vampire Grail Kings, The Mysterious Elise du Payens

Phase 4 - Guest star in ...

Phase 5 - Guest star in ...

I'm still reading the .pdf and haven't had a chance to play yet, but I've been thinking of...

SUSAN OF THE JUNGLE
Abandonded deep in the heart of the Amazon Jungle as a child and eventually rescued by scientist explorers. Possible aspects include:

Grace of the Jaguar

Language of the Animal Kingdom

Mastery of Simple Weapons (with the negative aspect that she doesn't really recognize complex weapons -- so she'll grab a table leg to use as a club even if a gun is available)

"Can we please kill him now?" (representing her killer side and her failure to grasp modern social mores)

"I seem to have torn my dress" (constant physical reminders that you can take the girl out of the jungle , but you can't take the jungle out of the girl)

EDIT: Hank Sinclair is welcome to guest star in Susan of the Jungle and the Forbidden Temple.

Re: [SotC] Post your Spirit o the Century character! I Double Dog Dare Ya!

Here is mine, also throught he first three phases:

Donovan Jake, aka “The Snake”

Phase I: Grew up in Chicago as the youngest in a large family that was sometimes struggling to make ends meet. He often found himself in competition with his siblings about who could help the family. To win Jake took a shortcut: he took to the streets and got involved with crime.

• Sibling Rivalry
• Does the wrong things for the right reasons

Phase II: After many years of crimes he was finally caught, but his skills did not go unnoticed. A secret military operation, called Undercover, demanded he be turned over to them. At first labeled too “wild” to be trained, but Brig. Gen. McCallister stepped to the plate for him. They helped him hone his talents to become an infiltrator against the Kaiser, dropping behind enemy lines and taking part in many dangerous missions. Seeing the horror of war up close changed him forever.

Patron: Brig. General Zane McCallister

• Shadow and silence are my allies
• Killing is never an option

Phase III: The Snake Against the Gangs of Chicago

Coming home from war the Snake vows to use his talents to clean up his hometown of the mob. However, when he comes upon a stash of mob gold, his childhood dreams of retiring to Cuba prove a hard temptation to resist!

• Making up for past mistakes
• Still a thief at heart

++++++++++++++++++++++==
Okay, I'm ready for Phases 4 and 5, y'all

Awesome. Can you give a brief (one to two sentence) blurb for it?

I'll guest star in your novel, I just have to figure out what I'm doing in Chicago. While I can pretty much make a link to anything via the Templars, that seems too obvious to me and I don't really like imposing the Templars on *everyone's* novel (unless they think it would be cool ). Maybe I could be attending a conference at the museum?

I posted a full write up of character creation, and made 2 other characters (name and basic story only) here. Making SotC characters is really fun, right up there with Burning Wheel characters.

Susan of the Jungle and the Forbidden Temple

Susan is discovered by scientist explorers. There is an adventure featuring natives with spears and poison darts, giant crocadiles, and the ruins of a lost temple founded by an ancient civilization.

Hank Sinclair could be searching for the clues to the lost civilization, or searching to rescue lost archeologists that went in before him, or following up a false lead on his quest for the grail. Or anything else that you can come up with that would send you exploring in her neck of the woods.

Hank could also be instrumental in introducing Susan to the civilized world.
