Enemy Contact: Bridge Alert for the FASA Star Trek RPG, promised in the 2nd edition rules but dropped when the distributors told FASA they didn't think a role-playing ship combat system would work. I HATED using the Starship Simulator game with the RPG (although I did like the game itself) and really wanted that product.
Oh..and Traveller 5. I have no confidence that this will ever actually appear and from the pieces of it I have seen, have no intention of buying it if it does. There WAS a really good upgrade of classic Traveller that was going to be released..but it was shot down by Marc Miller because it might compete with T5...bad, short0sighted decision in my estimation.

Along the same lines, the "Red Alert!" miniature starship combat game that was supposed to be out from Decipher.
I think it transmorphed into Pogs or something. Cardboard discs < miniatures.
Of course, I've got enough Star Trek Micro Machines to choke an elephant...
The English translation of the French RPG, Bloodlust. Hogshead was supposed to do it, and Darek Pearcy (sp?) of In Nomine fame was supposed to create it.
It had sounded really cool. I wish it had come to light.
Actually, Mongoose's nameless "Holy Grail" is at risk of becoming a famous vapourware case ...**
There's still hope though. I hope.*

"NOBODY expects the D&D rules revision! Our chief change is the ranger. And the druid. Our TWO chief changes are the ranger and the druid and the way magic spells work. Arg! Our three chief changes are the ranger, the druid, the way magic works and shiny new covers I'LL COME IN AGAIN!" - SteveD riffing on Monty Python.
Hey, the Fasa 'Trek stuff reminded me of another:
The Starfleet Ground Forces Soucebook: This was suppose to give a RPG 'rundown' for such things as Starfleet Marines...which set Ole Gene off like a hornet sting on kid allergic to bees...
(again FASA) Star Trek: The Next Generation: The RPG: The 'Great Bird of the Galaxy', personally put the squash on FASA before this (or any more Fasa 'Trek stuff) could be done...Aw, what could have been...
Elsewhere: Fantasy Games Unlimited's Villians And Vigilantes: Most Wanted Vol.2. Figure this out: 1, 3...but NO 2??? And no explination either...
And Jgants, I'd heard about 'Hardware Unlimited' around '98; it was but 2K that I began thinking 'WTH...where's this book???'. A new version of the book is being compiled right now, and author even listened to conserns about ignoring the 'previous attempt'. Now whether he'll actually be able to use anything from that manuscript, remains up-in-the-air...
I am with you though on 'Modern Recon'...for a company 'on the bubble', instead of focusing on getting back old contract that they dumped years ago, maybe they should focus on getting some of their old product out of the 'pipeline'... But then again: I think they should bring back T.M.N.T.

FRUP, by the way, is back in development, albeit a slow and lazy development where designers spend long evenings chatting about the philosophical implications of believing you're an rpg character when you are, in fact, an rpg character in another game, not to mention swanning off to Australia or getting randomly married. Look for it sometime next year, assuming (James Wallis, R. Sean, Jonny Nexus and I) get back on track with it.
I was having a very, very, very crappy day today until I read this. This has cheered me up no end

All of the above post is IMHO, YMMV, IANAL etc. Usual Disclaimers Apply. I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, and you can't prove anything.
