[RPG]: Spirit of the Century, reviewed by dmjeffk (5/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12619.phtml

Jeff K's Summary:

Spirit of the Century is a game of two-fisted pulp adventure using the latest incarnation of the FATE rules. The system is easy to learn, play, and run. It grants both players and GMs a great deal of flexibility in designing the characters and stories they wish to play. The guys at Evil Hat really stepped up to the plate and delivered with this one!

Thumbs up Re: [RPG]: Spirit of the Century, reviewed by dmjeffk (5/5)

That...was an awesome review, especially for a first one.

Major kudos sent your way. Now I'm going to look twice at SoTC.

Great review, Jeff K! You provide an excellent step by step discussion of the game. I hope you decide to write some more reviews for RPG.net!

Great job, Jeff. And I say that regardless of you giving us a perfect rating.

I'd like to echo Chris's encouragement for you to write more reviews for RPG.net. Your prose style is easy to read, and you hit a level of thoroughness that I think a lot of RPG.net readers crave.

Thanks!

Heh, this review was posted by RPGnet a bit late to get a hardback copy of SotC

EDIT: Well, color me wrong. You can still get one from Lulu.com.

Yeah, I didn't initially realize that hardcovers were still available until I checked out the Evil Hat website again right before writing the review. When I initially placed my pre-order, all the hardcovers were sold out and so I picked up the paperback edition, now I've got this little voice in my head telling me I must get a hardcover copy too!

Also,

Thanks C.W. and Iago for your praise and encouragement!

Re: [RPG]: Spirit of the Century, reviewed by dmjeffk (5/5)

I've got a question about the character development phases: in the Guest Star phases, is the player supposed to make up his own titles, or use titles created by the other players for their own characters?

Also, a couple of spelling nitpicks: it's "noirish", not "nourish", and "expound", not "expunge". ("Expunge" means to erase or obliterate -- I don't think that's what you had in mind when you wrote "expunges upon the rules"!)

Typically the player just makes up one title - the pulp novel of their character. After that they're Guest Starring in another character's novel. So, use other titles (but you get to create your own Aspects).

I just want to point out that editing a review is time consuming and boring, and that having a few typing slips come through is perfectly normal.
