[RPG]: Conan the Roleplaying Game, reviewed by MonsterMash (3/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12702.phtml

Dave Humm's Summary:

A good attempt at producing a useable Hyborian Age RPG let down by sloppy editing.

Recommended, especially for the travelling DM or a player, who won't need the bestiary.
Oops! I'm sure this refers to the pocket edition you also did a review of.

It may have been more beneficial to do the full review of the game with the full version, and then with the pocket edition do a compare and contrast analysis (and refer to the original edition review for rules, etc.). You briefly do a comparison at the end, but if there's other instances of this, it's lost in the cut-and-pasted bodies of text. Isn't there also an 'Atlantean' version of the game? I'm not sure if this is an 'update' or not - would it rectify some (or lots) of editing problems you found?

Not trying to sound snarky with any of this, just my observations!

Editing problems, oh my!

Nice review. I'd like to put in my 2 cents that anyone thinking of buying this game, make sure to get the Atlantean edition.

And now my rant ... the non-Atlantean edition is sick with typos and amateurish mistakes. As someone who bought it, I am disappointed in Mongoose. And for around $50 bucks no less! Then they come out with the "Atlantean" edition, with fewer typos and better layout and art. What the hell.

Not sure why this qualifies as "Atlantean." Perhaps residents of Atlantis had better spelling and more artistic taste.

Marketing hyperbole aside, it would be more accurate to title the original, "Conan: The Crapped Up Version."

Mongoose, next time, read your book before you send it to press.

How does armor piercing work in Conan?

Armour normally reduces the damage from a blow by its Damage Reduction. If a weapon is capable of penetrating armour this will have an Armour Piercing value. When a character is hit by a weapon that has a AP value is equal to or greater than the DR of the armour then the DR on that blow is halved (rounding down).
