After two releases which mainly adapted pre-existing material to their Second Age setting (\"Glorantha: The Second Age,\" and \"Cults of Glorantha, Volume I\"), Mongoose takes off into new territory with \"Magic of Glorantha,\" a fine book which contributes to the richness of this classic setting.

Fantastic review, Andrew! I found your observations regarding the relationship of monotheism to the relativisitic nature of Gloranthan reality to be particularly insightful.

That was agreat review and it has changed my whole attitude to Glorantha. I have always only half liked Glorantha: there were good bits and not so good bits. I only purchased the new Runequest for the Elric supplement that is rumoured to be written. Now although I will use it mostly for Elric role playing I will be also purchasing the Glorantha books.

Much obliged, Dan. I spend way too much time thinking about this nonsense!

(I'm the writer, by the way. Hi. )
I hope you feel the same way after I post my Lankhmar review! Just taking the piss. I think you will. A fine job on both books. "Elric" is in good hands.

Thanks, but by most conventional measures, I think I already am pretty much damned!
Seriously, I call 'em like I see 'em. I came down pretty harsh on the core rulebooks, and will still defend my position there, but these guys (Laws and Dembski-Bowden) did damn fine jobs. The books are worth a look. Cheers!

Well, thank you! That's high praise indeed. I know where you are coming from, by the way. I am a big Moorcock fan, and quite honestly never expected the Glorantha line to be as great as it has been. But if the same author is writing "Elric" I think we have a lot to look forward to. I've read his Lankhmar, and I think it's safe to say "Elric" will be great.

Great review, thanks!
So, assuming I'm a RuneQuest but not Glorantha fan, what can I get out if this book? It is obviously very much tied to Glorantha. But if I was looking for optional magic rules and similar crunchy bits, does it offer some?
