[RPG]: Conspiracy of Shadows, reviewed by Mechante_Anemone (3/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12723.phtml

Sophie Lagacé's Summary:

\"Conspiracy of Shadows\" is both a nifty game in its own right and a useful supplement for any other horror, suspense, occult, or investigation game.

It's not ugly, but it doesn't give any feel for what's inside; it looks like static on one of those old televisions, but in red. That's what I meant by "uninspiring" -- it doesn't inspire me to anything in particular. The lettering, both on the cover and throughout the book, is nice though. Like I said, I really wanted to give the book a 3.5 on style & presentation.

Er ... in the previous review of this product, was it not said that the background was directly influenced from middle- age Poland ?

If so, sorry but ... Poland is -NOT- in the Balkans.

Actually, it felt more Transylvanian when I think about it, which would make it more Carpathian.

I would rather say that the setting finds inspiration in medieval Slav Europe, so it's easy to see similarities to Poland, the Balkans, etc.

Interesting. Where do you see the Translyvanian influence? I'm really curious cause I didn't use much of Transylvania as a source.

Keith

When I read Conspiracy of Shadows (1st ed, I haven't got Revised, yet), the setting felt like Middle Age Slav Europe to me. If you tell me that you aimed for Middle Age Poland, I'll blush, remove the "Honorary member of the Polepack" from my sig, and reread your game again.

Medieval Poland had a big influence on the game. Probably the biggest influence on the cultural norms. However, I also drew from other slavic and middle asian states. So don't turn in your membership just yet...
