[RPG]: Dorastor: Land of Doom, reviewed by Lev Lafayette (4/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12735.phtml

Lev Lafayette's Summary:

One of the best \"high level\" campaign packs ever developed with in a location so terrifying it makes Mirkwood look like a picnic location. Amazingly, an appropriate low to medium campaign is also included. Cultures, environs, mythos and history are described in sufficient detail. Become Illuminated!

Thanks, Lev! I've been curious about Dorastor ever since eyeing it in a former GM's collection and being forbidden to peek inside.

I've run Dorastor several times and always had fantastic experiences. It is such an interesting, varied and dangerous setting that it is almost perfect for experienced players to explore without too much direction. It is unbelievably deadly.

I looked quickly and saw "Dorcester: Land of Doom."

I think that would be scarier.

Very nice review.

As a Gloranthaphile, I'd like to point out one inaccuracy. Arkat overthrew Gbaji/Nysalor in 450 and the Riskland Campaign is set in the timeframe of 1617-1621, which is substantially less than 2000 years.

*double-checks*

You're right. I misread the ST calendar and added the 550 years after Nysalor to the Dragonkill war of 1100 to the 1600 years of the third age. Worse still, I really, really, really should know this.

Regarding the cover: is that a unicorn broo?

'Cause that's just wrong.

Yes, it's one of the aspects of Ralzakark, the Broo Hero who is the most powerful entity in Dorastor. The cover is supposed to depict a stained glass window in a Lunar Temple that marks a treaty between him and the Empire.
